🛡️ EUROPEAN DEFENCE FUND: European Commission’s Information Days 🌐The European Commission is organizing the European Defence Fund (EDF) Infodays on May 28th and 29th in a hybrid format. These days aim to inform and foster expertise sharing among stakeholders in the European defence sector. 🇪🇺It is worth noting that the European Defence Fund supports research and development in the defence sector. Its main objectives are to strengthen cooperation between companies and research actors, to boost investments, and to aid in the development of innovative and interoperable defence technologies and equipment. 🛰️💼With a budget of nearly 8 billion euros for the 2021-2027 period, including 2.7 billion for collaborative research and 5.3 billion for capability development, the Fund provides financial support that can cover up to 100% of eligible costs. This support is complemented by a bonus system tailored to SMEs and a connection to PESCO projects. 📊🔬For more information and to participate in the event, check out the following link: https://lnkd.in/e8MfhEHt🔗 #EuropeanDefenceFund #EDFInfodays #EuropeanCooperation #ResearchAndDevelopment #EuropeanDefence #EUBudget

The European Defence Fund (EDF) is an exceptional opportunity for collaborative defense innovation, with a remarkable budget of nearly €8 billion for 2021-2027. This funding offers grants up to 100% of eligible costs, including bonuses for SMEs and mid-caps, to enhance their connection to PESCO projects. With €2.7 billion allocated for collaborative research and €5.3 billion to support capability development projects, the EDF is paving the way for a robust and modern defense system. Yet, to fully realize the transformative potential of the EDF, we must confront challenges head-on. Specifically, we need to address how to de-risk investments within Portugal's defense industry and establish a financial pipeline for priority projects. Additionally, aligning our national actions with EDTIB readiness goals is paramount to maximizing the benefits of this exceptional opportunity. For more information, visit: https://lnkd.in/gUUUmE3H#EuropeanDefenceFund #Innovation #Collaboration #Security #Defense #EU #EDF #FutureReady

Two critical projects in the #maritime #domain, launched under the EU’s Permanent Structured Cooperation #PESCO, have plotted a clear way ahead on the future development of their projects. The Critical #Seabed #Infrastructure Protection (CSIP) and Essential Elements of European Escorts (4E) projects recently held meetings at the European Defence Agency, bringing together Member States and industry representatives to shape the future development of these projects, both deemed key for future European maritime capabilities.https://lnkd.in/eV_E4NFC

A new UTS:ACRI Analysis, ‘AUKUS, the Defence Strategic Review (DSR) and Australia’s quest for deterrence’, by UTS:ACRI Adjunct Professor Michael Clarke, provides an assessment of the consistency between the stated concept of deterrence at the heart of the DSR and the capability acquisitions (including the AUKUS nuclear-powered submarines (SSNs)) that are flagged to implement that strategy. It asks whether both the strategy and capabilities are in fact fit for their stated purpose.Key takeaways:1. Australia’s ‘China choice’ has been made. AUKUS and the DSR have demonstrated that rather than accept declining American power and accommodate itself to growing PRC power and influence, Australia will actively seek to bolster American power in the Indo-Pacific.2. Given the shifting relativities of power between the US and the PRC, Australia has committed to restructure its defence and strategic policy around the objective of deterrence as a means of ensuring Australian national security and contributing to ‘collective security’ in the Indo-Pacific.3. The DSR, however, provides an incomplete guide to how Australia will achieve these goals as it fails to adequately answer the what, where and how of deterrence. In particular, there is a misalignment between the current and future capabilities of the Australian Defence Force, and the strategy of ‘deterrence by denial’ recommended for their use. This is the first part of a four-part UTS:ACRI Analysis series by Professor Clarke which examines an inter-linked set of questions for Australian defence and strategic policy stemming from April’s DSR. Part Two will be released next week.Read: https://bit.ly/40cJVuF
