Delhi News Highlights: Delhi continued to swelter under heatwave conditions on Thursday as the maximum temperatures recorded at three weather stations touched 49 degrees Celsius. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mungeshwar and Najafgarh recorded 49 degrees Celsius, Narela 49.2 degrees Celsius and Safdarjung 45.6 degrees Celsius.

A Delhi court Thursday issued notice to the ED on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea seeking regular bail in a case related to the alleged excise scam and directed them to file its response by Saturday. The judge also sought the central probe agency’s response on another plea of Kejriwal seeking seven-day extension of his interim bail on medical grounds, in case the regular bail petition is not allowed.

The National Capital on Wednesday witnessed light rains and thunderstorm amidst record breaking temperatures and a severe heatwave. Earlier, Mungeshpur in Northwest Delhi had recorded the highest-ever temperature in the city at 52.3 degrees Celsius. However, the weather office later said “it could be due to error in the sensor or the local factor”. IMD is examining the data and sensors, it said in a release. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also said that such a temperature was “very unlikely”, adding that the official position would be conveyed soon.
