  • Fresh lime juice
  • Gin - We love Empress 1908 gin, it's our preferred gin. It's a botanical gin with a slightly floral flavor, made in small batches in copper pots. Dry gins work best for this recipe.
  • Pomegranate juice
  • Ice cubes for the glass and shaker
  • Ginger beer
  • Garnishes - Pomegranate seeds (arils), a rosemary sprig, and lime wedges or a lime wheel make for the perfect garnish on this co*cktail.

✨Substitutions & variations

Here are a few suggestions on additional flavors to try, or simple variations to this recipe.

  • Swap the citrus juice - If you prefer, you can use lemon juice, blood orange juice, or even grapefruit juice in this co*cktail.
  • Swap ginger beer for soda water, seltzer water, or club soda if you prefer something less sweet. Keep in mind, you may want to add a little simple syrup for a touch more sweetness in the drink depending on your tastes.
  • Low carb co*cktail - Simply use diet ginger beer to make this drink low carb.
  • Add tonic water for a distinct bitter flavor instead of the sweet and spicy flavor ginger beer provides.
  • Swap ginger beer for ginger ale - It won't have the same punchy ginger flavor, but it will still add some nice sweetness and fizz.
  • Stronger co*cktail - If you like your drink a little stronger, add 2 ounces of gin instead of 1.5 ounces.
  • Sweeter drink - Love a sweet drink? Add this drink to a high ball glass so you can add more ginger beer.

🔪Prep work

  • Juice the limes.
  • Remove the fresh pomegranate arils from the fruit.
  • Measure out the remaining ingredients, except for the ginger beer. Keep the ginger beer container closed so it doesn't become flat.

💭Frequently Asked Questions

How to store the leftovers?

This drink is best enjoyed right away, and we don't recommend making it in advance. However, if you need to save leftovers, store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Do not freeze. Please note that the ginger beer will become very flat, and the ice will melt in the drink, watering it down.

How to make a large batch:

If serving a crowd, grab a punch bowl or large pitcher. Add in lime juice, pomegranate juice, and gin. For a festive look, add in pomegranate arils, fresh lime slices, and small sprigs of rosemary. Stir to combine, and store in the fridge until it's time to serve, up to 24 hours in advance.

When it's time to serve, add ice to the bowl or pitcher, followed by ginger beer. Give it a quick stir, and ladle into ice-filled glasses. Enjoy!

FAQs

Is gin and pomegranate good? ›

It's an easy sipping G and T, and the pomegranate flavor is not super bold. Everything sort of melts together in a lovely way. It's also not super sweet, so the gin can come through.

How do you serve pomegranate and rose gin? ›

The Perfect Summer Spritz: Combine 50ml of Edinburgh Gin's Pomegranate & Rose Liqueur with 100ml of chilled Prosecco and a splash of soda water. Garnish with a fresh pomegranate seed and a sprig of mint for a stunning and refreshing summer co*cktail.

How do you make pink empress gin? ›

Thanks to the citrus, this co*cktail is on the pinker side of the spectrum. Instructions: In a co*cktail shaker with ice, combine an ounce and a half of Empress 1908, half an ounce of fresh lemon juice, and half an ounce of simple syrup. Shake until well chilled, then strain into a flute.

Do you drink gin liqueur with tonic? ›

With an ABV of around 20% as opposed to the usual 37.5%, gin liqueurs are considerably lighter in alcohol. They are typically mixed with soda or sparkling wine as opposed to the usual tonic, however, they can also be sipped straight over ice.

What does gin do to your body? ›

The powerful little purple juniper berries in gin are packed with antioxidants, which are proven to increase the regeneration of cells in the body. The result is healthier and smoother skin… maybe even less wrinkles! As with many spirits, gin is low in calories — approximately 97 per shot.

Is gin the most healthy alcohol? ›

Gin has less sugar and fewer calories than some other liquors. If you already consume alcohol, gin may be a slightly healthier option.

What tonic goes with pomegranate and rose gin? ›

This combination of pomegranate with Persian rose petals and Turkish apple creates a very aromatic and refreshing gin. A truly exotic summer in a glass, whichever part of the world you are in and whatever the season. A premium elderflower tonic makes the perfect partner to this gin.

What fruit mixer is best with gin? ›

Citrus fruits like lemon, lime, and orange are a natural match for London Dry gin. The acidity and brightness of these fruits complement the botanical flavours in gin, making for a refreshing and balanced drink. Try a classic gin and tonic with a squeeze of lime, or a gin sour with lemon and sugar.

Why is Empress Gin so good? ›

Distilled in copper-pot stills, Empress 1908 Gin contains eight signature botanicals, including exotic butterfly pea blossom, discovered in a tea blend served at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, B.C. These blossoms impart a warm herbal earthiness, soft texture, and deep indigo colour.

What gin turns purple? ›

Empress gin has a dark blueish-purple hue that comes from a unique source: the butterfly pea blossom. Butterfly pea flower infusion changes the Empress 1908 gin to purple and will also change to various shades of pink and light lavender depending on the mixer.

Do you pour gin or tonic first? ›

To craft the perfect G&T at home, simply fill a highball glass up to the top with ice cubes (a pre-chilled glass is an added bonus). Then, pour in your gin, top with tonic water and lift with drinks stirrer or long spoon from the bottom to mix without disrupting the fizz. Garnish with a wedge or twist of fresh lime.

Can we eat pomegranate with alcohol? ›

Avoiding certain foods along with pomegranate is recommended. Chocolates, spinach, tea, coffee, and alcohol have compounds in them that inhibit the absorption of iron. Keep at least a 30-minute gap between these foods and pomegranate consumption for maximal iron absorption.

Which juice is better with gin? ›

You can't go wrong with a juniper-forward London dry gin, which works with nearly any juice you can source, from lemon and lime to orange and grapefruit. Softer gins can work great, too, but depending on their botanical makeup, they may pair better with sweeter OJ or more sour grapefruit.
